Background of Program

The Diploma in Hotel Management program, under the Faculty of Management, University College MAIWP International (UCMI) is the first non-medical related program offered by the UCMI, as a diversification exercise in preparation for upgrading into a university-college by the year 2017. This program was selected as part of the college’s effort to contribute to the manpower needs of the hospitality industry, particularly in hotel operations in the country. According to PEMANDU, the tourism industry will require about 495,000 additional workers from 2017 until 2020 in order to meet the targeted growth plan, which offer great career opportunity for the hotel management graduates.

Career Prospects

The graduates of this program have ample career opportunities in major hotels in the Klang Valley as the students from this program is well received by these hotels, especially during their Industrial Attachment program as well as during working as part-timers. Other hotels around the country have also recognized the program due to good rapport between the hotels and PICOMS, particularly with the management of the program. The graduates can also further their studies in universities, both public and private universities, as the program is also recognised by those institutions such as UiTM and UNITAR. The graduates can also find employment in other related fields such as working in restaurants and food outlets, food catering institutions, event management companies, airlines industry, or be entrepreneurs in hospitality businesses.

Study Prospects

The duration of this program is 2½ years comprising of 5 long semesters and 2 short semesters, inclusive of 1 semester of practical attachment (Industrial Training) whereby the students will be given the opportunity to experience the real-life situations at leading hotels throughout the country at the end of the program. This program offers a comprehensive and thorough curriculum with the objective of developing and nurturing skilled human resources into the hotel industry which not only possessing the required skills and knowledge, but also have excellent personality to enhance the image of the industry, in line with the Islamic values and image of MAIWP and of the country. The students will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to perform the tasks in the four main areas of hotel operations, namely F&B Service Operations, Kitchen Operations, Front Office Operations and Housekeeping Operations. Other aspects of hotel operations will also be taught such as marketing, human resource management and hotel accounting.

Admission Requirements

A pass in SPM with at least Credit in any 3 subjects or any equivalent qualification;

OR

A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject or any equivalent qualification;

OR

A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul;

OR

A pass in Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 in a related field and a pass in SPM with a minimum of 1 Credit in any subject;

OR

Other qualifications equivalent to a Certificate (Level 3 Kerangka Kelayakan Malaysia, KKM).

International Students

For international students, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 500 or International English Language Test System (IELTS) with a score of 5.0 or above equivalent is required.
